What is a substitute day?
If a bank holiday falls on a weekend, a ‘substitute’ day becomes a bank holiday, normally on following Monday.
How many bank holidays are there in 2023?
For England & Wales there are a total of eight bank holidays in 2023. In Scotland there is nine and in Northern Ireland the number of bank holidays is ten.
How does this compare with bank holidays in 2022?
In 2022 two additional bank holidays were given due to the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations and then for the state funeral of the queen later in the year.
Will there be a bank holiday for King Charles’s coronation ?
11th October it was announced that the coronation will take place 6th May 2023. As of yet, there’s been no announcement on whether there will be an extra bank holiday, however, given this falls on Saturday it now looks unlikely.
